Quoting

Is anyone else having this problem? I feel really awkward quoting lyrics with swears in them. I've never really dropped F bombs in English papers so I guess it's just weird for me. No one else probably has the same problem because I think Tupac has the most vulgar language. Especially quoting racial slurs is just difficult in this paper, but pretty hard to avoid since half Tupac's songs are about killing and getting in fights and smoking. I guess I'll just make it interesting.

What Name Do You Like Betta?

Back to what we were talking about. Since we brought this fish home, we have yet to decide on a name. First thoughts were something simple; maybe name him Arnold, or Bowser. Marty was looking for a simple name, but I kind of wanted a spin off name; something like Dwyane Wave, Donofin McNabb, Ludafish, Adrian Peterswim, Wave Matthews, Leonardo DaFinci, or Fincent Chase (yeah, we're big Entourage fans. When we get a goldfish it will be "Ari Goldfish"). All of these names are a little long, but would definitely get a couple laughs, maybe they can even be a middle/nickname. Picking the last name was easy because obviously it would be a combination of our last names: Martin and Osten. Martin-Osten was fine with me, but when switched around they produce Osten-Martin. This has to be the sweetest last name ever just because of its resemblance to the famous car company. I'll blog later if we decide on a name.

The Chosen One

I was going to continue my blog-spree and talk about naming our Betta fish, but I chose to redirect this line of conversation and talk about something else for now. Have you ever said something, and seen the same word as you said it? Maybe it's just me, but I find this happening quite often and I really get freaked out when it does. A little different situation, but as I was typing "...the one." in my last post, I was scanning the library room for more interesting books. As the words were coming out of my fingers, I saw this black book with green letters stand out of the crowd that was titled The Art of the Matrix. Feeling like I was Neo, I grabbed the book off the shelf and took it to my study desk. Turns out the book was filled with interesting pictures of what the designers and creators of the movie wanted things to look on film. I quickly browsed through it and it was pretty interesting. Pretty interesting as in those things that I can blog about, but only looked at for 5 minutes. Check it out sometime.

The Betta Way to Do It

This weekend, while I was home to visit friends and family, my roommate and I stopped by Petco to pick up a third roommate. I wanted a sweet snake, but Marty hates them. He wanted this sweet but probably poisonous frog, but we decided it wouldn't be allowed in our room. I'm allergic to rabbits, so we decided to get a fish. The store had a whole section of Betta fish of all colors. Some bright blue, others flashy red, some with stripes of rainbow like colors. I was not too impressed with all these colorful fish because if all Betta's are colorful, who stands out? And that is when I saw him. I would say it was love at first sight, but I don't think that applies for fish. I hadn't felt this way since I first saw Transformers. In the bottom right corner, like he was hiding from the glare of the other lame fish, we saw our Crowntail Betta. He's a dark black with stripes of white and probably the most beautiful male Crowntail Betta I have ever seen. We quickly decided he was the one and that was final.

Big Book of Nothing

Spending all the time in the UNH library has brought many things to my attention. Occasionally, as I sit here thinking of things to blog about, I'll grab a book off the shelf (don't worry, I put it back right where it belongs) and skim through it. The last book I picked up was a book about the size of a tennis court. Okay, maybe not that big but it had to be almost four feet tall and two and a half feet wide and had barely anything in it. It was all about some old culture and had pictures of scripts in it. If you see this book, I recommend picking it up just to say you've held a book that big. Maybe you can blog about it, too.

Procrastinoter

When it comes to homework, I have noticed that I am a very "at the last minute" type of worker. This is not to say I procrastinate; I just think I get a lot more done when it's crunch time. My work is done a lot faster, and it is usually better quality. Being so much of a working to the deadline guy can sometimes be a bad thing, especially when I have more of a workload than expected. These library hours I have recently started haven't been quite as productive as I had hoped, but I definitely get a little work done.

Ardi

I read an article on Yahoo! the other day that talked about how archaeologists found a skeleton of a woman that dated back 4.4 million years. This gives us a some answers about our history, but digs up way more questions. What was this place like that long ago? I mean, that's almost two and a half million years BC. The woman was 4 feet tall and they say she weighed about 100 pounds. This is tiny compared to a human today, but that was average size for her day, are we still going to grow? This is just one question that is thought of on this topic. What is the answer? Only time will tell.

Books on Books

The amount of books in this library is completely ridiculous. Just looking around me right now I can see thousands on thousands of just books. Maybe I'll read some of these books in my life, maybe not. I mean, there are just so many books I have to read one of them, right? I can't imagine how long it would take to read all of them; definitely impossible in one lifetime. I really don't even know why I'm so shocked by the amount of books. A library should have this many books, I guess. I just thought I'd share my excitement

Better than Wall Paper

Posters have never really played a factor into my life until college. Every room you walk in, you can tell what kind of person lives there by the posters on their wall. My roommate and I have so many posters right now there are barely any space for more. I bought half of them, which consists of pictures from Entourage, Inglorious Basterds, Pulp Fiction and a portrait of Megan Fox. My roommate has pictures from Boondock Saints, Fight Club, a Canadian flag, and a picture of the cover of Rolling Stone with Taylor Swift. What do you think a couple guys are like with those on their wall?

Maybe You Can Have It All

My favorite show came to an end Sunday night. Entourage, a show about Vinny Chase and his glorious life has caught my attention earlier this summer, but since then I have purchased seasons 1 through 5 to try to catch up. I missed most of this latest season, but I'm not too sad about that because it just means theres more Johnny Drama's drama to watch. The show is not really that interesting; not much happens besides Vinnie getting offered a new movie and Ari getting mad. But even though there isn't much plot, all the viewers just want to live like Vinnie Chase. He gets the girls, the money, the respect, and the fame.
So since my first post and now, I took a break from catching up in blogs and went down to the library cafe and grabbed a roast beef sandwich, apple juice, and S'Mores pop tart. First of all, if you're thinking, "Ew, S'Mores pop tart? Like... Chocolate and Marshmallows where the classic Brown Cinnamon and Sugar should be?" you clearly have never engulfed one. They are delicious. Secondly, I'm not sure about this sandwich. They put weird things on it (onions and red peppers) instead of what is usually on it (lettuce and tomato). At least the apple juice is terrific.
Energy drinks are definitely given a bad name because of "untested" or "non-FDA approved" ingredients. I'm not sure if the supplements inside are safe or not, but they sure are delicious. I think my favorite is Red Bull. Even though it tastes great, the price for a 8.4 Fl Oz bottle can cost up to $2.50. That's 2.5 times as much as I could get a giant Arnold Palmer or AriZona Iced Tea for. The cost may be worth it, but so far in college, my roommate and I have gotten the big 20 packs because they cost a little less per bottle. Still expensive though.

Tired Legs or Laziness?

After a bunch of weeks of school, I have come to a point where I really dislike walking. I've thought of other alternatives, but none really appeal to me. I guess I could buy a long board, but those can cost around $150 and I've never really had one. How does one stop on a long board? There are no breaks. I guess its possible to just jump off but thats kind of dangerous. A bike would also work, but storing it isn't very safe; I wouldn't want my bike to be stolen. And what happens in the winter? I think I might just buy a snowmobile. Now that would work.

Study hours

The library at the University of New Hampshire is more helpful than I knew. Coming to college, I thought I would come here once or twice a month before tests just to really sit down and study. Recently, I have been assign to attend library hours from 6 to 9 every night, Monday through Thursday. I originally thought this time would be a waste and boring but I actually get a lot of work done here and then have the rest of the night just to hang out. The only downfall to this assignment is it cuts directly into my dinner time. There is a cafe here, so I might check that out and blog about it.
